Majed Society inks deal with Naqa for environmental sustainability in business

The Naqa Business Sustainability Initiative in Makkah signed a partnership agreement with the Majed bin Abdulaziz Society for Development and Social Services with the objective of strengthening environmental sustainability in the business sector. Naqa is Makkah's first technology incubation program affiliated to Badir for Biotechnology, the Kingdom’s first technology incubator established at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).
Under the agreement, Naqa will help establish the first working “green team” at the society and will provide training to inculcate an environment culture among its members. Naqa will also carry out studies about the environmental situation at the society, work out active plans and innovative solutions in order to improve environmental practices and improve the green performance of the society with a focus on spreading the concept of sustainability throughout the society.
Expressing happiness over signing the agreement, Ruay Hassan Hamed, administrative assistant at the society, said the agreement would have a positive impact on creating an environmentally-friendly working atmosphere and increased awareness among employees about the significance of environmental sustainability.
On her part, Muna Al-Amer, founding partner of Naqa, said the signing of the agreement with the society would accelerate the race to achieving sustainable development.
“This would help strengthen the role of Naqa in increasing awareness among the business community about the significance of sustainable environmental development. It would also encourage more companies to cooperate with Naqa in achieving environmental sustainability through implementing innovative technological solutions related to preserving resources, improving efficiency and management of water and energy sources, and improving the quality of air indoors,” she said.
Al-Amer also commended the pioneering role of Badir in developing technology in the Kingdom as well as in supporting innovators and business pioneers to translate their technological ideas into successful investment projects.
Badir for Biotechnology supports new Saudi businesses in the environmental, medical, agricultural, and industrial biotechnology fields as well as in areas such as bioinformatics and bio-nanotechnology. The program aims to stimulate economic growth, employment and skills development in the Kingdom through entrepreneurship, enterprise development and technology commercialization in the biotechnology sector.
