The WWF says in a report that the newly described species living near the Mekong River include fish, plants, reptiles, mammals, amphibians and one bird.
The 21-page report said Monday that plants and animals across the greater Mekong region are threatened by habitat loss, deforestation, climate change and unsustainable resource extraction.
Sarah Bladen, communications director for WWF Greater Mekong, says the region is losing biodiversity at a “tragic rate.”
The Mekong flows through China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
