Prince Faisal also appointed Assistant Editor in Chief of Asharq Al-Awsat Arabic daily Salman bin Yousuf Al-Dossari as the new editor in chief of the Arabic business daily Al-Eqtisadiah.
“The new appointments have been endorsed by the company’s board of trustees,” an official statement from the prince's office said.
Al-Faiz takes over from Khaled A. Almaeena, who has been editor in chief of Arab News for more than 20 years, the statement said.
Almaeena stepped down at his own request but nonetheless wants to devote time to writing and being a columnist for Arab News and Al-Eqtisadiah, the statement added.
Prince Faisal thanked Almaeena for the contributions he made as editor in chief of Arab News. He also congratulated Al-Faiz and Al-Dossari on their new appointments and wished them every success in their new roles.
“The Saudi Research & Publishing Company has fixed the term of editors in chief and their deputies to three years, which could be extended, adding that such a step was taken for the first time in the local and Arab press,” the statement said.
“The SRMG chairman has approved a proposal made by the board of trustees in this respect,” it said. “This decision does not exempt the present editors in chief and their deputies as the three-year period will be applied to them, based on their present contract,” it added.
The SRMG said the new decision was taken to add new spirit to journalism work and apply the policy of change in the company’s activities as well as to provide opportunities for professional journalists to realize their hopes and aspirations.
