“Police personnel will maintain a presence in and around all of Jeddah during the Eid period. Security personal will be at all mosques reserved for Eid prayers, shopping malls, entertainment recreational venues, restaurants, parks and the Corniche," said First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, spokesman for Jeddah police.
“Jeddah police have devised a plan to assure safety and comfort for all the city’s visitors and tourists during the holiday.”
“All Jeddah police and security personnel are at the service of the people. However, we urge everyone to follow safety rules and regulations while enjoying their holidays,” Jeddah police head Maj. Gen. Ali Al-Ghamdi said.
Meanwhile, police are trying to trace those involved in a phone card scam.
“Police forces received multiple reports from people complaining of receiving calls from anonymous callers. They tell the targets that they have been nominated for a prize of more than 2 million Saudi riyals and that to win it, they have to send a rechargeable phone card,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.
Al-Juaid said police investigators are currently working in coordination with officials in the telecommunication sector including local phone companies.
"Citizens and residents alike are warned against falling victim to such fraudsters. People have to be careful when giving out their sensitive personal information to avoid falling for these scammers’ plans. Since the beginning of the year, police investigators have found and stopped such scams using new techniques,” said Al-Juaid.
Al-Juaid recalled one particular case involving a Pakistani victim who ended up transferring more than SR10,000 to one of these scammers and never got his money back.
