Rwanda's election commission also says that 97 percent of
registered voters cast ballots, a huge turnout.
Kagame has overseen strong economic growth in Rwanda but has
been criticized for crackdowns on dissent and opposition groups.
Charles Munyaneza, the electoral commission's executive
secretary, said Wednesday that he was happy with the electoral process. He said
the commission had not received any reports of voter intimidation.
An Associated Press reporter on Monday spoke to three voters
who said they and other villagers were forced to vote in the early morning
hours before polls opened.
