Speaking to Arab News about the problems at the DPS Riyadh, Farooqui said: “The school management and its owner Nadeem Tarin have done their best, but some issues are still there. The DPS Society, for its part, is concerned about that and is not only doing its best to settle all the issues relating to the school but also trying to ensure that none of these issues arises in any other school abroad.
“Having received a fair amount of complaints about the functioning of the school, the society has requested the Indian Embassy step in and appoint a committee to look into its affairs and suggest remedial measures.”
Farooqui said that society is particularly disturbed over the allegations of sexual harassment at DPS Riyadh.
It has to be noted that a woman teacher has leveled sexual harassment charges against a top school functionary and has threatened to take the complaint to the National Commission for Women in New Delhi. “This allegation is really worrisome and the society is trying its best to find out the truth behind it. An internal assessment did not find any merit in the complaint.
However, the Delhi-based DPS Society has written to the Indian ambassador in Riyadh to suggest a way to address the issue.” Farooqui said. The embassy has already initiated an inquiry into the sexual-harassment case and has contacted the female teacher, a source said.
Farooqui said that due to the troubling situation at the Riyadh school the society would not open any new school in Saudi Arabia in near future.
Commenting on reports published in some section of the local media regarding opening of the DPS in Dammam, Farooqui said, “In my own understanding unless the mess in DPS Riyadh is cleared, the DPS Society is not going to consider opening any other school in Kingdom. Presently, they are concerned about the problems the Riyadh school is facing.
“The announcement you are referring to was a faux pas and it was clarified by Nadim Tarin, the franchisee of the society in Riyadh, to the chairman of the DPS Society that he was misquoted in the media.”
