The Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation said yesterday it would support the handicraft-training center in Qassim initiated by the Women’s Cooperative Society in the region. The center will train 300 women in the first year in various fields including social care, marketing, business management and public relations.
The society, which is also named Harfa, works for the empowerment of women and activate women’s role in various developmental activities. It will also develop women’s capacity in technical and administrative areas required by the job market. It will also work for preserving the Kingdom’s heritage and promoting Saudi handicrafts.
“The main objective of Harfa is to realize sustainability of handicraft work and craftswomen,” an official statement said. “It also intends to transform the organization from one depending on financial assistance to a productive and contributing one.”
The foundation, is chaired by chairman of Kingdom Holding Company Prince Alwaleed supports various women organizations engaged in increasing women’s legal awareness, protecting women’s rights and conducting training programs to enhance women’s employment prospects. Prince Alwaleed’s wife, Princess Ameerah Al-Taweel, is the foundation’s vice chair.
