AMD Les Supplément: Simple yet edgy bow ties

Twenty-six-year-old Palestinian Ahmad Daabas is a young man with a flair for fashion and lifestyle. He started his fashion line of bow ties for men, and the first online portal for men in the Middle East.
Daabas loves everything that is unique and different and, at the same time, he wanted to make something special with a twist. This is what first attracted him to design bow ties. “Bow ties have this special something that grabs attention, especially if they are not the common plain variety. After visiting many cities around the world, I found that in our region we really do lack it, and we do need something like this to add to our look and make it more trendy and up-to-date,” he said. “The first bow tie I designed was made out of silk and had two Swarovski Crystals added on. I still love it and I have it on from time to time. I believe this best reflects me since it shows my true style: simple yet edgy,” he added.
Most of the internationally recognized fashion brands bear the name of their designers; Daabas thought of doing the same, aiming to have the same future as those designers have. “I thought of having my name in my brand but with a different twist, adding to it “Les Supplément”, meaning ‘the supplements’,” he said. “AMD stands for my full name Ahmad Mohamad Daabas, and since bow ties and every other accessory added to an outfit are supplements, the name therefore came to be AMD Les Supplément,” he added.
Daabas chose to design bow ties as he has the passion and the inspiration to design, and wanted to create something which was available yet not trendy. “I believe in bow ties. They are creative, edgy and stylish. I also believe they have some masculinity in them,” he explained. “Having said that, I’m working on different ideas now and on different concepts to start designing complete outfits for men, but I will talk about it as soon as everything is ready to be announced,” he added.
The designer uses materials that are rarely used in bow ties. “I use leather, denim and studs in my designs. People loved the idea from my first collection and it received a positive reaction,” he said. “In the upcoming collection, I will be having another mix of materials, which will hopefully shock my clients and hopefully they will love it as well,” he added.
Daabas says that his pieces are statement pieces, and what he wants from people who have them on is to be proud of them. “I want my clients to feel like style icons because they have such a stylish add on their look,” he said. “What makes my designs special is that they are unique, creative and inspired by my surroundings. I believe this should be the main factor making each design special,” he added.
Daabas’ first collection is already on the market and almost sold out. His next collection is in the making and due to be released by this summer. “The first collection was mostly made of leather in shiny and matt material, then denim in addition to the studs that were used on the pieces. This collection was called the statement collection and each piece, I believe, was a true statement piece,” he said. “There are different factors that actually inspire me. Being up to date with the latest trends, attending fashion weeks and meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds are, in my opinion, the best source of inspiration I get,” he added.
Daabas is currently working on his new collection of bow ties with material from Italy, and is looking into a project for complete outfit design for men. In addition to this, he will be taking care of fashion segments in a new TV channel dedicated only for men in the region.
