Six Asian workers injured in roof collapse

Six Asian workers were injured when the roof of a restaurant in Jamiya district collapsed yesterday. In another accident, two Asian workers suffered burn injuries in a fire in north Jeddah, according to Civil Defense spokesman for Makkah Lt. Col. Saeed Sarhan.
He said the Civil Defense operation room received a call about the restaurant accident on Monday morning. Soon, rescue teams rushed to the scene of the accident where the entire roof of a single story building with 95 square meters area had collapsed.
The Civil Defense teams were able to save workers trapped under the debris of the building and rushed some of them to hospital. Six workers sustained multiple injuries; four of them were given first aid for their minor injuries by the Saudi Red Crescent volunteers while the remaining two were taken to the Jamia hospital and their conditions are reportedly stable.
Investigations are underway to pinpoint the circumstances that led to the accident. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the fragile steel pillars supporting the roof made of wood could be the cause for the collapse,” he said.
In the second incident, two Asian laborers were injured in a fire at an automobile workshop behind Rehaily gasoline station in Taiba district. The injured workers were admitted to King Fahd Hospital. Three cars were gutted in the fire.
