RIYADH: The Riyadh Chapter of the Muslim Educational Society (MES), a prominent expatriate organization from Kerala, recently organized an event to honor the students of CBSE Class X and XII for their scholastic achievements. Students from 2008 and 2009 batches were given gold medals and cash awards in a ceremony attended by a large number of expatriates.
“A total of 16 students were qualified for the awards,” said Mohamed Ashraf, president of MES. Shalini Sasikumar of Class X (who won 95.6% marks) and Sharija Ravindran of XII (95.6% marks) received gold medals offered by Atlas Jewelry. Sana Ahmed Ali of Class XII (89.2% marks) and Aqeel Rahman (87.5%) also received gold medals. The remaining 12 received cash awards and plaques.
Ashrah Foundation, a charitable trust, offered cash awards of Rs.4,000 each to 10 students. Vats, second secretary at Embassy of India and observer of Indian schools, commended MES for promoting educational awareness. Manzar Jamal Siddiqui, principal International Indian School, Riyadh, and Aasima Saleem, principal of Yara International School attended the function.
MES Riyadh unit is currently sponsoring 32 poor and needy students in India for their higher studies, said Ashraf. “We have instituted the scholarship since 1999 and have distributed over 1 million Indian rupees so far,” he added. General Secretary Abdul Rahman Kutty welcomed the gathering and Hameed Naha, vice president proposed a vote of thanks.
