Middle East Gets New Free Movie Channel

JEDDAH, 2 May 2008 — “Fox Movies” the region’s latest free-to-air English movie channel went on on-air yesterday. Given its connection to Hollywood through 20th Century Fox Studios, “Fox Movies” will present a line-up of movies that are a must-watch for the movie aficionado. The new channel, is brought to the region through an alliance between Rotana and News Corp., the parent company of Fox Networks and Studios.

The Channel launched with the blockbuster movie “Blade Runner — The Final Cut”, Starring Harrison Ford and Directed by Ridley Scott.

“Fox Movies” will air commercial-free uninterrupted movies and interactive viewing choices.

“Movies Uninterrupted” gives viewers a chance to watch an entire movie, without being interrupted by advertisements or other breaks in the film. “Fox Movies Select” will allow viewers to text in their preferred choice from a list of movies for that evening’s entertainment.

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, Chairman of Rotana Audiovisual expressed his joy over the new alliance with News Corp.’s CEO Rupert Murdoch.

“We at the Rotana Group feel that we could not have chosen a better partner than this global media group toward our first step to bring Western entertainment through our channels... this partnership is based not only on my long and personal relationship with Mr. Rupert Murdoch, but it is also based on the similarities and synergies between our two media companies,” he said.
