RIYADH, 15 March 2008 — The youth leadership program conducted at Yara International School in collaboration with the Kohinoor Toastmasters Club was a big success as it helped students to demonstrate their communication skills.
In prepared speech contests held on the occasion, Mufeeda was declared first, Najla Ajmal second, while Kamil Kafoor emerged as the third winner. Riya Yashmi, Rumana Rahman and Atquiya Ara were declared first, second and third respectively in the impromptu speech category.
Addressing the ceremony at the Indian Embassy Auditorium, Rajeev Shahare, deputy chief of mission at the embassy and chief guest, emphasized the importance of the art of effective communication and its role in facilitating an individual’s success in life.
Both speech contests were conducted by students. Sonia Varghese of Grade VIII was the contest master for the prepared speech and Allan Joseph of Grade VIII was the contest master of impromptu speech.
J.T. Selvan, president of Kohinoor Toastmasters Club, who was instrumental in conceiving and conducting the program, told the audience how much hard work had been put in by the students to make the program a success.
Senior Toastmaster from Sand Dunes Club and the CEO of yahind.com, Ziaur Rahman, gave a power-point presentation about the concept of Toastmasters Club and its rapid growth across the globe.
In her welcome speech, Principal Aasima Saleem underlined the need for developing communication skills. She congratulated the students and the organizers of the program.
Tariq Thameem, Toastmasters Club area convener, noted the role of Toastmasters in conducting such leadership programs for students. Shahare presented cups and certificates to the winners. All participants were given course completion certificates.
Shahjahan, chairman of Yara, P.V. Ashraf, convenor, public relations, and Abubacker, convener of academic committee, attended the ceremony. Krishnaveni concluded the function by delivering the vote of thanks.
