JEDDAH, 11 March 2008 — Badr Al-Sheikh led a Riyadh sweep of the medals in the singles at the start on Sunday of the Saudi Districts Bowling Championship at the Al-Gosaibi Hotel Bowling Center in Alkhobar.

Badr carded total pinfalls of 1,287 to claim the gold medal in the first event decided, well clear of teammates Fahad Al-Hujailan and Hassan Al-Sheikh.

Al-Hujailan tallied 1,226 pinfalls for the silver and Hassan 1,214 for the bronze.

As of press time last night, the doubles event was in progress. The three-man team (trios) event is set for today.

Ibrahim Juraifani, president of the Saudi Bowling Federation, awarded the bowlers with the medals at the end of the event.

“We missed the singles event but we hopefully still have more chances to win in this championship,” said Majid Aslani, one of the Makakh Province team members.

Al-Juraifani noted all four teams competing from Makkah Province, Asir, Eastern Province and Riyadh played the game in a high level especially the Riyadh team.

“The high performance seen during the singles event shows that what would follow will be even stronger and exciting and this is what makes Saudi bowlers occupy a very prestigious place among international players,” said Al-Juraifani.
