RIYADH, 9 November 2006 — Noted Saudi journalist Hala Al-Nasser has been appointed as the new editor in chief of the Rotana Magazine published by the Rotana Audio and Video Company.
The company made the appointment as part of an effort to attract new ideas, the Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday. The company has also decided to shift magazine publication operations to Riyadh.
Hala started her career as an associate editor for Asharq Al-Awsat in 1991 and later became the editor of the women’s magazine Sayidaty. She worked in Sayidaty for a number of years and is a bold defender of the rights of women in the Kingdom. Hala used to contribute to several sister publications produced by the Saudi Research and Publishing Company and other Arab and Gulf publications.
Her pioneering book on the history of women’s journalism in Saudi Arabia, “Shaharzad Fi Sahafa Al-Saudia” (“Shaharzad in Saudi Press”), describes the obstacles faced by women journalists in the Kingdom.
