RIYADH, 6 April 2006 — The Cameraderie Photography Club will teach digital photography through an “open to the public” seminar in the next three weekends starting tomorrow at the Riyadh International School (RIS) in Suleimania District.

In “photography basics,” students will learn about camera, lens, flash, filter, exposure, aperture and shutter, depth of field, optical zoom vs digital zoom, ISO and digital noise, composition, color mood, and Photoshop basics.

Gerico Canlapan, a recipient of the 2005 Bagong Bayani Awards for the Culture and Performing Arts category, will be one of the speakers, which also include Derek Cabanero and Christian Servillas.

Canlapan will talk about topics such as portraiture as a career, what makes a successful portrait, setting up studio at home, equipment, lighting setup, use of props, and many more.

“This will be the sixth workshop on portraiture that the club is going to hold,” said Canlapan. He added that there was an average of 50 students attended each seminar.

Aside from seminars, Cameraderie continues to teach its students about glamor, landscape, advanced photography, nature, and digital photography — actual or on-the-spot shoots.

According to Canlapan this could be his last contribution to the Filipino community in Riyadh as he is set to leave the Kingdom “soon.”

“That’s why I came up with this seminar to raise fund for the group for its own equipment to use and especially for the students who may want to join Cameraderie for them to avail of such privilege,” said Canlapan.

Participants will be charged a minimal fee of SR100 each, which will also cover membership and the privilege of “continuous teachings” from the group.

Cameraderie maintains a Yahoo! site link http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cameraderie_ksa/ wherein members can exchange communication and photography know-how.

“I am giving ‘photo challenge assignments’ twice a month, which started in March, give my critique about their works and photography tips as well,” said Canlapan.

A photo contest is in the offing next month and a group exhibit in June.
