LONDON: The Jordanian and Bahraini foreign ministers reaffirmed their countries’ fraternal ties on Tuesday, with both nations having faced regional security challenges and Iranian attacks since March.
Ayman Safadi and Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani discussed the latest developments and their implications for regional and international peace and security. The call also focused on strengthening Arab cooperation and the interests of both countries, according to the Jordan News Agency.
Iran attacked Jordan and Bahrain last week in retaliation for US strikes. The two countries welcomed a memorandum of understanding announced this week between the US and Iran, which would pave the way for a permanent ceasefire, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and detailed negotiations concerning Tehran’s nuclear program.
Jordan described the document as an important step toward restoring regional and international stability, while Bahrain commended Pakistani efforts to mediate the MoU.
The conflict started on Feb. 28, when the US and Israel killed top Iranian regime officials, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and bombed various vital military and civilian sites. Tehran launched ballistic missiles and drones against at least 10 countries, including Israel, and blocked energy tankers from navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
