LONDON: The ex-wife of actor Colin Firth has criticized Gwyneth Paltrow over the actress’s appearance in an advert for an Israeli housing development.
Paltrow had appeared in the ad promoting 51 Park, a 51-story luxury complex in Herzliya, 90 minutes’ drive from the Gaza Strip, The Independent reported on Sunday.
Livia Firth, 56, an environmental activist, said on an Instagram video that she had “canceled” Paltrow’s upcoming visit to Quintosapore, a sustainable farm in Italy that she runs with her siblings, over the advert.
It came as the actress faced criticism online as social media users condemned her promotion of luxury property amid the regional conflict.
“I just canceled Gwyneth Paltrow,” Firth said in the Instagram clip. “She was supposed to come to the farm in a couple of weeks’ time on a tour, a soil-to-fork farm experience, and we just canceled her because what she did is completely unacceptable. Making an ad for a luxury condo is as disgusting as it can be for someone (with) privilege.”
She added: “How detached are you from reality? You’re either so detached that you need to be canceled, because you live in another world, or you’re actually a really, really nasty person. Or you are stupid? Which are you, Gwyneth Paltrow?”
In the ad for 51 Park, she is seen getting ready for the day in a New York apartment before running to Central Park and entering a taxi, telling the driver to take her to the luxury development.
The driver asks her if 51 Park is in New York, but Paltrow says her destination is “Herzliya, Israel.” She adds: “There’s a reason the world’s most iconic buildings are by a park.”
