WASHINGTON: The Saudi Embassy in the US participated in the Sports Diplomacy Summit in Washington on June 3.

Saudi government officials, diplomats and leaders from the sports and business sectors attended the event, which formed part of international discussions ahead of the football World Cup.

The World Cup will begin on June 11, with the starting match between Mexico and South Africa played in Mexico.

The embassy was represented by Hessa Alyahya, director of public diplomacy and media affairs, who joined diplomats and international officials in discussions on the role of sport in fostering international cooperation, promoting economic growth and strengthening ties among nations.

During the summit, the embassy highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to promote cultural exchange and international engagement through sport.

It also showcased the rapid development of Saudi Arabia’s sports sector under Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s role in hosting major international sporting events.
