Where We Are Going Today: Lofi cafe in Alkhobar

Located in Alkhobar’s northern district, Lofi feels less like a traditional coffee shop and more like a carefully designed creative space.

From the moment you walk in, the identity is clear; retro-inspired furniture, warm ambient lighting, curated decor, and design details that avoid the repetitive minimalism seen across many newer cafes in the city.

The atmosphere is easily the cafe’s biggest strength. Indoor seating feels intimate despite the large space, while the outdoor area overlooks the busy streets of northern Alkhobar, adding a lively urban backdrop to the experience.

A live DJ set during my visit elevated the mood further. The music selection was tasteful, energetic without being overwhelming, and added personality to the cafe rather than feeling performative.

What also stood out was the ordering system. Lofi operates through self-service screens where customers place orders, receive a printed receipt, and collect drinks by number.

While common internationally, it still feels relatively new within Alkhobar cafes, and the process made ordering noticeably smoother during peak hours.

For drinks, I tried the iced V60 with KitKat-inspired notes. Sweet coffee profiles can often feel artificial or overpowering, but this one was surprisingly balanced.

The chocolate undertones complemented the coffee rather than masking it, making it both approachable and genuinely enjoyable.

The French toast, offered in several flavor variations, was another highlight. Crisp on the outside while remaining soft inside, it carried enough texture to avoid feeling overly heavy or soggy which is a common issue with similar desserts elsewhere.

The matcha, however, was disappointing. The flavor leaned far too heavily on milk, diluting the expected earthy depth. The absence of alternative milk options also felt limiting, particularly for a cafe that otherwise presents itself as modern and detail-oriented.

The main drawback is the crowding. Lofi is consistently busy, and at times the noise and movement can interrupt the relaxed atmosphere the cafe is clearly trying to create. Still, that popularity is understandable. It’s new, visually striking, and currently one of the more talked-about spots in Alkhobar.
