RIYADH: Saudi Arabia condemned an attack on a checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday, the Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry said.

Militants detonated a car bomb at the checkpoint and opened fire on police on Saturday night, killing at least 15 and wounding three, officials said.

15 officers were confirmed dead in the latest attack in the border province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during a wave of militancy that has strained ties between Islamabad and Kabul.

In a statement, the ministry said: “The Kingdom expresses its solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan in this tragic event, and reiterates its complete rejection of terrorist and extremist acts that attempt to undermine the security and stability of Pakistan and its people.”

It continued: “The Kingdom extends its sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Pakistan, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.”
