DUBAI: Disney’s CEO Josh D’Amaro has told shareholders that Disneyland Abu Dhabi is continuing as planned despite regional instability following the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, which began on Feb. 28.
In a letter to shareholders published alongside the company’s latest quarterly financial results, D’Amaro reiterated the company’s commitment to the project, offering a public endorsement of the development.
He said: “We have multiple experience expansions underway using a capital-light model, including working with established local operators to bring a new cruise ship to Japan and a theme park resort to Abu Dhabi.
“The strategic logic of our Abu Dhabi plans is unchanged. Major new theme parks are necessarily long term in nature given the lead time of these projects, and this investment approach has consistently benefited our business.”
Once completed, the Abu Dhabi destination will be Disney’s seventh global theme park resort and the company’s first venture in the Middle East.
The development is being created in collaboration with developer Miral, which is behind such attractions as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld.
