JAZAN: Jazan region hosts a diverse plant wealth shaped by its varied natural environments, making it home to numerous wild plants of environmental and pastoral value.
This has contributed to a range of vegetation cover across its governorates, reflecting the region’s geographic and climatic diversity, which has supported the sustainability of its natural resources and the abundance of its environmental elements.
The “Al-Alaqah” shrub — or Dipterygium glaucum, to give it its scientific name — stands out; found in Jazan’s natural environment, it thrives in the region’s warm climate and open soils. This has made it a key component of vegetation cover in several places, particularly in open and semi-arid environments.
The shrub blooms during spring or after rainfall, producing small yellow flowers that appear at intervals along its branches. Each flower consists of four delicate petals.
This nectar-rich plant attracts bees, pollen, enhancing its environmental and agricultural value, stimulating bee activity and supporting natural honey production.
