  • Leaders also discuss latest developments in Middle East

LONDON: King Abdullah of Jordan condemned the armed attack that targeted the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner during a call with US President Donald Trump on Monday.

The two leaders discussed developments in the Middle East and the need to restore stability, as well as US efforts in that regard, the Petra news agency reported.

Trump and first lady Melania were evacuated after a man attempted to breach security at the media gala held at the Washington Hilton.

The suspect, later identified as Cole Tomas Allen, was armed with guns and knives and is alleged to have fired at a Secret Service agent. On Monday, he was charged with attempted assassination of Trump and with seizing firearms.

The annual black-tie gathering of journalists and politicians was attended by about 2,600 people.
