Syrian authorities dismantle ‘terrorist cell’ in Homs
  • Two members of group killed in raid on hideout
  • Security forces seize anti-tank missile launchers, rifles, RPG launchers

LONDON: Syrian authorities have dismantled what they called a “terrorist cell” in the central province of Homs, as the government continues to assert security control over all territories.

The Interior Ministry said that the group planned to disrupt security and stability in Homs. Two members of the group were killed when authorities raided their hideout, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.

Forces seized a large cache of weapons, including anti-tank missile launchers, sniper rifles, automatic weapons, RPG launchers and ammunition.

The ministry said that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to target the hideouts of sleeper cells and disrupt sources of terrorism in the country.

The Syrian Arab Republic has faced several deadly attacks since the fall of the Assad regime in 2024. In December, an attack on a joint patrol near Palmyra in Homs killed two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter and injured three US soldiers and two Syrian security personnel.

In November, Syria became the 90th country to join the Global Coalition against Daesh, which was established in 2014 to fight the militant group that at that time controlled large areas of Syria and northern Iraq and still poses a threat in the region.
