JEDDAH: A collection of rare coral prayer beads have gone on display at the Red Sea Museum in Jeddah’s Historic District.
The beads are made from yusr, a type of black coral with a polished sheen that has long been associated with Red Sea crafts.
Some of the pieces are inlaid with silver or amber, which highlights the high levels of craftsmanship, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Prayer beads are historically associated with Hajj and Umrah journeys, serving as gifts carried by visitors to their families and friends.
The Red Sea Museum is home to a wide range of exhibits that showcase the Kingdom’s rich maritime heritage. A popular tourist attraction it also helps to promote cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange.
Jeddah’s Historic District, or Al-Balad, has been reinvigorated under Saudi Vision 2030, demonstrating a national commitment to preserving heritage and enriching the cultural landscape.
