LONDON: Syrian authorities have repatriated the bodies of 76 nationals killed during Israeli attacks in Lebanon since early March.
The General Authority for Borders and Customs confirmed that 180 bodies of victims killed by Israeli shelling have been transported across the Syrian-Lebanese border.
Authorities received 37 bodies at the Jdeidet Yabous crossing. Another 39 bodies were repatriated via the Jousieh crossing, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
Israeli attacks in Lebanon since March 2 have resulted in 2,454 deaths and 7,658 injuries, according to the latest data from the National News Agency.
The Iran-backed Hezbollah militia launched strikes on Israel in response to the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the first day of US and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28.
Lebanon was not included in the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran in early April. However, Lebanese and Israeli officials began a second round of direct talks in Washington on Thursday to discuss the possibility of extending the truce between Tel Aviv and Hezbollah that started last week.
