ABHA: Farmers in the Asir region are preparing to plant spring crops at the start of the new agricultural season, taking advantage of the area’s natural resources and diverse topography which contribute to the variety of their harvests.
They plow and level the fields while maintaining the terraced hillsides, a distinctive feature of agriculture in the region. These terraces conserve soil and rainwater and enhance agricultural productivity in both the highlands and the Tihama Plains.
Blending tradition with innovation, farmers are implementing irrigation systems that draw on rainwater and wells alongside advanced, technology-driven solutions, according to a Saudi Press Agency report.
Greenhouses and nurseries cultivate seedlings, enhancing sustainability and maximizing water efficiency.
The crops farmers are preparing to plant this season are diverse, including grains such as corn, wheat, millet, and barley, as well as seasonal fruits like grapes, figs, and pomegranates.
Their efforts are supported by the relevant authorities through programs and initiatives also aimed at developing the agricultural sector and promoting environmental sustainability.
