Middle East welcomes New Year

The Middle East welcomed 2025 on Wednesday, celebrating a new year after a tumultuous 2024 marked by war and power shifts.

In Syria, many celebrated with the country's new flag after rebels took over the Arab country earlier this month.

In Dubai, which has become renowned for its spectacular firework and light show for New Year, welcomed 2025 in style.

Walls of fire and lasers blasted into the night sky above the world's tallest building Burj Khalifa as the clock chimed to mark the start of 2025.

Large crowds gathered around the building and Dubai mall to view the spectacle.
