KUWAIT: Kuwait has sent its 10th relief plane to Sudan containing 10 tonnes of food supplies, the Kuwait News Agency reported on Monday.

The aid forms part of a coordinated effort by the Al-Salam Humanitarian and Charity Society and Kuwait’s Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Social Affairs ministries, KUNA added.

Nabil Hamad Al-Oun, director general of Al-Salam, said the shipment was part of ongoing support to assist the people of Sudan amid a severe humanitarian crisis.

The country is facing acute shortages of food, water, and medicine, compounded by floods and heavy rains that have displaced millions. Additionally, the situation is exacerbated by the ongoing conflict between the army and rival paramilitary group the Rapid Support Forces.

Al-Oun said that the aid included essential food items such as rice, beans, and dates, aimed at meeting the immediate needs of displaced families.

He also announced that a second aircraft, carrying more than 10 tonnes of aid, is scheduled to depart on Tuesday.

He urged continued support for the Sudanese people, who are not only facing famine but are also at risk from the spread of diseases, including cholera, which threatens millions in the absence of basic humanitarian necessities.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported that around 25 million people in Sudan are currently suffering from the effects of famine.
