JAZAN: The shrimp fishing season in Jazan Region on the Red Sea coast begins Sunday, Sept. 1, and will run until the end of March, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.

Muhannad bin Abdulaziz Khawaji, director general of the Fisheries Research Center in Jazan, told the SPA that the center is “fully prepared to support local fishermen, including by facilitating the issuance of fishing licenses.”

Khawaji stressed that designating a season for shrimp fishing is crucial for sustainability and to maintain the availability of shrimp.

He added that his center aims “to support food security by providing high-nutritional-value marine products.”

Khawaji urged fishermen to comply with regulations and use sustainable fishing practices to protect shrimp stocks.
