LONDON: Students from some of the best UK universities were hosted by the Jordan Tourism Board this week as part of a strategic collaboration aimed at promoting Jordan as a prime educational tourism destination for British students.

The JTB event, which finished on Sunday and was held in partnership with the Jordanian Embassy in London and the UK-MENA Network, involved week-long discussions with students and graduates from Oxford University, King’s College London, and the London School of Economics and Political Science among others.

During their stay, the delegation met with notable Jordanian figures, including Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Prince Hassan bin Talal, who is chairman of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, and JTB Director-General Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat.

Discussions emphasized the economic significance of the tourism sector in Jordan and the potential of educational tourism for British students, particularly in studying Arabic and exploring the country’s antiquities, Jordan News Agency reported.

The delegation expressed interest in establishing partnerships with British universities to market Arabic language programs in Jordan.

They highlighted their capacity to identify students with an interest in Middle Eastern studies, Arabic courses, and archaeology.

Additionally, the group said it was keen to organize information sessions and presentations at British universities to promote study-abroad programs in Jordan, aiming to strengthen cultural ties between the UK and Jordan.

The UK-MENA Network is dedicated to fostering cultural understanding and enhancing relations between the UK and the countries of the Middle East and North Africa region.
