LOS ANGELES: Much-anticipated thriller “Blink Twice” marks Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut, showing her multifaceted talent as she co-writes, directs, and produces this gripping film.
With a narrative that intertwines suspense and psychological drama, Kravitz is making a bold statement in the industry with her vision and storytelling style.
“Directing is wild. You really can't prepare yourself for it. I think as somebody who's been on many, many movie sets, I had zero idea what it actually took to make a film,” said the actress-turned-director who made her acting debut in the romantic comedy film “No Reservations” and also starred in the “X-Men” franchise.
Starring alongside Channing Tatum, the film explores the unsettling dynamics of a small-town where secrets bubble to the surface.
“I played Slater King. He's a tech sort of billionaire kind of guy, and probably got a lot of money at a time where, you know, there were no rules. You know, when you get a lot of money at a young age, there's no playbook or rulebook that that tells you how to do it,” he said.
Adding to the film’s intrigue is Alia Shawkat, the Iraqi American actress who brings a raw and authentic energy to her role.
“Jess is kind of the whistleblower … she's the first person to kind of awaken. So throughout the movie, you kind of think she's losing it, but then you find out she's actually been saying the truth the whole time,” Shawkat explained.
“When you make stories like this, I think it's important to remember that it is about power and that power can't be given. It has to be taken. And so I think that's, you know, one of the strongest themes of this film is it's about a woman taking her power instead of just trying to be a savior,” she added.
