RIYADH: The Esports World Cup saw a “Super Sunday” of grand finals at Boulevard Riyadh City, with XSET seizing Fortnite gold, Xiao Hai blasting his way to Street Fighter 6 success, and Wolves Esports earning Teamfight Tactics glory.

Street Fighter 6, held at the Qiddiyah Arena within the Saudi Esports Federation Arena, saw the most heartwarming story of the day — and maybe the tournament — when Chinese player Xiao Hai wept with joy while lifting the trophy. To cheers from the packed arena, the champion was also joined by wife, Elena, who ran on stage to celebrate with him after his 5-2 final triumph over Kawano.

Xiao Hai, whose real name is Zeng Zhuoju, said: “When I play the game, I am just six years old. Xiao Hai means little kid. I am 35 years old and too many people said I am older and can’t do it anymore. I proved I can do it. I am Xiao Hai, and I am an Esports World Cup champion.

“I am really thankful that my wife can be here today. Many people were thinking she was just with me for a holiday or traveling. But she’s here representing my love. I am very happy to win and give her this moment.”
