RIYADH: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen has had a significant impact on Yemen’s healthcare system, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.

The Kingdom aims to achieve sustainable development in the healthcare sector by implementing numerous projects and initiatives.

Key projects include the construction and equipping of hospitals and medical centers, along with the training of healthcare professionals.

The King Salman Medical and Educational City in Al-Mahra Governorate is a prime example of such an initiative, offering a 110-bed hospital, outpatient clinics and operating rooms within a complex of 1 million sq. meters.

The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Hospital in Aden — which boasts a 270-bed capacity, 14 specialized clinics and a heart center — provided more than 1.3 million medical consultations, 8,700 surgeries, and 440 heart operations from January 2023 to June 2024.

Projects such as the Taiz Cancer Treatment Center, the Hadramout University Hospital and Cancer Treatment Center, and the Aden Rehabilitation Center for Disabled Children have been established to address specific needs.

In addition, Al-Mahra’s Kidney Dialysis Center and the region’s Operations and Intensive Care Center have been created to improve care for patients with kidney disease.

The program has also upgraded existing facilities at Marib’s General Authority Hospital and the 26th of September Hospital, along with Aden General Hospital.

Initiatives have helped some 4,486,847 beneficiaries and supported 26 medical facilities across nine Yemeni governorates, demonstrating the Kingdom’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of the country’s people.
