ISLAMABAD: A newly commissioned Pakistan Navy ship, ‘HUNAIN,’ has set sail from Romania on a maiden voyage to Pakistan, the Pakistan Navy said on Saturday, in the latest addition to the Pakistani fleet.
Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) HUNAIN is the third of four offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) being constructed at the DAMEN naval shipyard in Romania, according to the Director General Public Relations (DGPR) of Pakistan Navy. It is equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors.
Upon departure, PNS HUNAIN conducted a passage exercise with Romanian naval ship, LASTUNUL, while the Fleet Commander of Romanian Navy, Rear Admiral Cornel Cojocaru, also visited the Pakistani ship and called on the commanding officer on the occasion.
“The addition of PNS HUNAIN will bolster Pakistan Navy’s combat potential in safeguarding maritime frontiers and ensuring maritime security in the Arabian Sea and beyond,” the DGPR said in a statement.
In July, the Pakistan Navy commissioned its second HUNAIN offshore patrol vessel to strengthen regional maritime security in the Indian Ocean. Pakistan has also acquired multiple MILGEM Corvette ships from Turkiye in recent years.
The Pakistan Navy also assumed command of a multinational task force in July responsible for ensuring maritime security in the southeastern waters of the Middle East, operating in the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman and Gulf of Aden.
