RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has confirmed its commitment to promoting international cooperation and the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space, highlighting its achievements, capabilities and efforts in the sector at a UN meeting in Austria.
The Kingdom, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission and the Saudi Space Agency, is participating in the 67th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, which is being held in Vienna from June 19 to 28.
The participating delegation held a meeting under the theme “Saudi Arabia Towards Space: Igniting the Space Sector,” with more than 80 leaders and experts in the field, to discuss cooperative opportunities to advance the global space industry, the commission said in a statement.
The delegation also reviewed the progress of the Saudi space sector and the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance the sustainability of space through its initiatives, such as organizing the Space Debris conference in February, and “its permanent presence in international forums, which reflects its commitment to achieving the vision of the peaceful use of outer space in accordance with international principles,” the CST said.
On space exploration, “the Kingdom shed light on its journey toward space, which achieved many successes, most notably conducting 14 pioneering scientific and research experiments, and reviewed developments in the regulatory framework and governance of the space sector in the Kingdom,” it added.
