RIYADH: The Saudi Heritage Commission won the iF Design Award in the field of design and creative spaces.
The commission was granted the award by the iF Design & Jury Awards in Berlin for Design for Cultural Exhibitions, for the Saudi International Handicrafts Week Exhibition “Banan,” organized by the commission last July in Riyadh.
A jury of 132 prominent international experts took part in judging.
Evaluation was based on five main criteria: Concept, design, distinction, success in achieving goals and functional capacities.
The award recognized innovative designs inspired by the Kingdom’s cultural heritage of handicrafts, as well as the quality of the Banan exhibition, the distinction of colors and the beauty of its heritage pieces.
The exhibition was supervised by the handicrafts sector, one of five departments within the commission.
Banan saw a large turnout and significant visitor interaction, with extensive Arab and international participation.
It was organized by the commission from July 6-12 last year under the patronage of Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, minister of culture and chairman of the board of directors of the commission.
The iF Design Award was established in Germany in 1954.
The award is the second received by the Banan exhibition within months, after it won the “Better Future|Paris Design Awards” in January.
