Top Politician Dies in Car Crash

NEW DELHI, 5 May 2004 — Senior Congress leader and Rajasthan unit chief of the party Abrar Ahmed died in a car crash early yesterday. Ahmed’s car collided with a truck at Devli town in the Tonk district of Rajasthan.

The 48-year-old Congress leader was going from Ajmer to Kota for election work. Three others traveling with Ahmed, also died in the crash.

Ahmed, who served as federal minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao government in 1993, was a sitting Rajya Sabha member. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1988 and returned to the upper house in 2002.
