RIYADH: The Saudi Embassy in Ottawa hosted a Ramadan iftar banquet for members of Canada’s parliament, ambassadors from Islamic and Arab nations, and the heads of Islamic organizations in the country.

The Saudi ambassador to Canada, Amal Yahya Al-Moallimi, welcomed guests to the event on Tuesday. She told them there is a lot of pain during the Muslim holy month this year in light of the suffering of the people of Palestine, and reiterated the Kingdom’s firm support for the Palestinian cause, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

During more than five months of war between Israel and Hamas in the besieged Gaza Strip following the Oct. 7 attacks, more than 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, including about 13,000 children and 8,800 women, according to figures from the Palestinian health ministry.

Guests at the banquet thanked the Saudi government for the services it provides to Islam and Muslims worldwide, and wished the Kingdom continued progress and prosperity.
