CAIRO: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi praised the historical relationship between his country and Russia on Tuesday as he congratulated Vladimir Putin on his re-election as Russian president.
El-Sisi said the result “reflects the confidence of the Russian people,” as he wished his counterpart success, along with progress and prosperity for the population of the country.
He also highlighted the unwavering commitment of both nations to enhancing their relationship to best serve the shared interests of their peoples in terms of development and prosperity, and to facilitate coordination and consultations on issues of mutual concern.
Vladimir Putin secured a fifth term as president with 87.28 percent of votes, Russia’s election authorities said on Monday. He ran effectively unchallenged, with only loyalist candidates allowed on the ballot.
At the launch of a joint nuclear power project in January, El-Sisi said: “I would like to express my sincere and profound appreciation and pleasure for the generous participation of my dear friend, President Vladimir Putin, in the ceremony of pouring the first concrete into the foundation of Power Unit 4 at El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, marking the groundbreaking for the Egyptian state’s major construction phase in the nuclear power plant.”
