CAIRO: Egypt has condemned the continued Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Egypt condemned in the strongest terms on Sunday the attacks by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians, which include victims waiting for humanitarian aid at the Kuwait and Nabulsi roundabouts.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt demanded Israel cease its policies of collective punishment against the population of the Gaza Strip, including the siege, starvation, indiscriminate targeting of civilians, and destruction of infrastructure, in full violation of the provisions of international law and international humanitarian law.
Cairo called on Israel to abide by its responsibilities being the occupying power, mainly its responsibility to provide protection and a decent life for citizens under occupation; to refrain from targeting civilians; and to provide urgent aid to the population of the Gaza Strip.
Egypt reiterated its warning against the dangers of carrying out any military operation in the city of Rafah due to the dire humanitarian consequences for Palestinian civilians who have taken refuge in the region as the last safe haven inside the Gaza Strip.
It added that undertaking such a step despite international warnings constituted a disregard for the lives of innocent civilians and would be a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
Egypt renewed its call on influential international parties and the UN Security Council to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities by demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza; preventing the displacement scenario from materializing by all means; putting an end to the ongoing Israeli violations against civilians; and delivering humanitarian aid urgently and by all means into the Gaza Strip.
Egypt urged Israel on Saturday to remove restrictions and impediments to the process of allowing aid access to Gaza via land ports.
