RIYADH: In line with the global movement to protect seagrasses, Red Sea Global has recently launched the first ever seagrass transplantation initiative in the Red Sea, with a special program dedicated to rescuing and restoring seagrass meadows at The Red Sea destination and AMAALA.

With five seagrass species in Al Wajh Lagoon and eight in AMAALA, this initiative represents a significant step towards safeguarding the diverse marine ecosystem of the Red Sea, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

Seagrasses are not only important for local marine ecosystems, but also have global significance. They provide habitats for endangered species such as Dugong (Sea Cow), Green Seaturtle, and Halavi Guitarfish, help purify and clean water, and enhance overall water quality.

RSG’s program involves a training for its Environment and Sustainability department employees with a pilot project launched this month, including rescuing and transplanting seagrass meadows.

In addition to the environmental enhancement efforts, a key focus of the program is raising awareness about the importance of seagrasses in the environment. By educating other business streams about the significance of seagrasses and their role in the ecosystem, RSG hopes to garner greater support for their protection. In the future the program aspires to involve volunteering opportunities to engage and educate people on the criticality of seagrass.

Red Sea Global committed to responsible development and regenerative tourism, and the seagrass conservation efforts are just one of the many ways it is working towards a greener and more sustainable future.

RSG is a global multi-project developer, seeking to lead the world towards a more sustainable future, showing how responsible and development can uplift communities, drive economies, and enhance the environment.  The protection of natural capital is central to all development decisions, as the organization seeks to create a better future for all.

A cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 ambition to diversify its economy, RSG is playing a key role in transforming the nation, by creating exciting opportunities for young Saudi talent and the private sector, as it develops built assets and destinations across multiple sectors that make a positive impact for people and planet.
