RIYADH: Rare collectibles and antiques spanning decades of Saudi history are front and center of a new exhibition at the King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh.
The historical exhibition is being held alongside activities marking Saudi Founding Day, which is held annually on Feb. 22.
Children taking part in the activities will visit pediatric patients at the Shumaisi Hospital as part of the library’s socio-cultural program.
The library’s branch at the King Salman Social Center is also hosting an exhibition of Saudi landmarks, showcasing a collection of rare images depicting the Kingdom’s history across various historical periods.
Books by prominent explorers who visited the Kingdom throughout history will also be displayed, accompanied by images from travel diaries. A cinematic film will be shown to visitors, depicting the lifestyles of people living across the Arabian Peninsula throughout history.
At its King Abdulaziz Historical Center branch, the library is hosting a series of family events, activating the Year of the Camel initiative proposed by the Ministry of Culture for 2024. Heritage corners featuring children’s stories will also be displayed, in cooperation with the Diriyah Gate Development Authority.
A series of mobile libraries will also support Founding Day activities. More than 1,000 titles from the library’s collections will be available to the public in several public parks on Feb. 27, with the help of the Saudi Elderly Support Organization.
