KARACHI: A Pakistani company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has signed an agreement with a digital research and development firm in Katmandu to build a freelancing ecosystem in Nepal by arranging capacity-building programs and conferences for programmers and other Internet professionals, said a statement released on Tuesday.
Nepal is said to have immense potential to benefit from Internet-based businesses, with nearly 20.8 percent of its population between 16 and 25 and 40.7 percent falling in the bracket of 16 to 40 years.
“We have gained tremendous expertise to facilitate freelancers in Pakistan along with collaboration with various stakeholders, including commercial banks, broadband Internet providers, and universities, which ultimately empower freelancers and enhance their contribution to the economy of South Asia,” Chairman of the UAE-based Dellsons Group Ibrahim Amin said. “Now, we are delighted to share the expertise with a regional country.”
Bikram Shrestha, President of the Nepal Internet Foundation, which signed the agreement, said Internet accessibility was indispensable for every country to ensure faster economic growth.
“Hence, our think tank is committed to introducing every essential and emerging trend among the masses in Nepal,” he added. “There is immense potential for the youth of Nepal to contribute to the national economy while providing services to their clients on global freelancing platforms.”
CEO of Dellsons Group Tufail Ahmed Khan described freelancing as the “emerging way of earning money in South Asian economies,” adding it needed talent in multiple fields.
“The representation of freelancers in any country is essential to advocating their rights and addressing issues and challenges at a national level,” he noted. “Similar to Pakistan, Dellson will build a national level platform for freelancers in Nepal to support … [its] human talent.”
Additionally, the UAE-based Pakistani group will also engage different corporations in the public and private sectors to help them promote the digital economy and establish remittance channels in Nepal with different countries. Dellsons Group has experience of doing such work in the past and formed the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) in their own country.
