AMMAN: Officials from Jordan and China recently met to discuss ways to boost investment in the Red Sea port city of Aqaba’s special economic zone.

During talks, Naif Fayez, chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, and Chen Chuandong, the Chinese ambassador to Jordan, considered initiatives to bolster the zone’s tourism, economic, and industrial sectors, the Jordan News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Their discussions also focused on further strengthening Jordanian-Chinese relations in a range of fields, including trade.

Fayez noted the authority’s efforts to attract investment to the zone by offering incentives, tax advantages, and a stable business environment. He also pointed out Aqaba’s important strategic position and its extensive connectivity through free trade agreements.

The Chinese envoy lauded the favorable investment conditions in Aqaba and highlighted China’s existing commercial and industrial interests in the zone.

He also invited the authority to take part in a government training program in China aimed at fostering knowledge exchange.
