RIYADH: Drones will be utilized to enhance transportation and shipment efficiency in Saudi Arabia, thanks to a new agreement signed by the Kingdom’s SAL Saudi Logistics Services Co.

The logistics and supply chain solutions provider signed a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi-based technology firm Space Age on the second day of the World Defense Show 2024.

The agreement aims to provide the technical solutions and infrastructure necessary to transfer and localize the drone industry, as stated by SAL in a post on X.

Under the deal, SAL will commence negotiations to establish a collaborative framework to leverage the capabilities of both firms in the field.

Moreover, the deal will involve both parties to develop the essential technical solutions and infrastructure required to facilitate the transfer and localization of Saudi Arabia’s drone industry.

This initiative is part of the broader effort to maximize the use of technical solutions in the logistics services sector, positioning the Kingdom as a leading global center connecting continents worldwide, in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, according to Thunyan Al-Thunyan, president of Logistics Solutions at SAL.

This aligns with SAL’s objective to play a pivotal role in the sector’s transformation as outlined in Vision 2030.

The logistics and supply chain solutions provider manages a significant share of Saudi Arabia’s cargo-handling industry through a strong global logistics network. Its clientele includes global airlines, freight forwarders, and Saudi ministries.

The company is 70 percent owned by Saudi Arabian Airlines Corp. and 30 percent by Tarabot Air Cargo Services.

Established in 2019, SAL is the dominant market player in the Kingdom, boasting a market share of approximately 95 percent and offering services to 18 domestic airports. The company also manages transit and export shipments.
