ALULA: Jayco AlUla team’s British cyclist Simon Yates triumphed in Saturday’s AlUla Tour 2024, finishing the distance of 811.2 Kilometers in 18:37:05 hours.
The race’s fifth and last stage started from the old town as competitors cycled across Mughayra village, AlUla International Airport, and then continued through Harrat Uwayrid Viewpoint, covering a distance of 150.2 kilometers.
Out of 126 cyclists representing 18 teams at the event, Belgian cyclist William Junior Lecerf, from the Soudal Quick-Step team, came in second, three seconds behind Yates, with New Zealander Finn Fisher-Black, from the UAE team, three seconds further back.
Yates came in first in the fifth stage, covering the distance in a time of 3:24:37, followed by Lecerf in second and Fisher-Black in third.
AlUla Tour’s organizing committee awarded Belgian cyclist Tim Merlier from Soudal Quick-Step with the red jersey (general points classification), while Yates won the green jersey (general individual time classification).
Lecerf took the white jersey (best young rider), and the Japanese cyclist Atsushi Oka received the orange jersey for the most active rider, for the third time.
The German team Bora Hansgrohe were named the best team in the fifth stage.
The cyclists at the AlUla Tour completed five stages within five days, during which they explored natural, cultural, and historical landmarks such as Hegra Archaeological Site, the Maraya Hall, the Winter Park, AlUla International Airport, and other locations in the AlUla region.
The tour was organized by the Ministry of Sport and the Royal Commission for AlUla, in partnership with the Saudi and International Cycling Federations, and is part of the Quality of Life Program.
