Mai Alsharif was one of the women elected to form 45 percent of the board of directors of the Saudi Journalists Association on Jan. 28.
Alsharif, Independent Arabia’s assistant editor in chief, was appointed as supervisor of the Independent’s Riyadh office in March 2023. Her duties included writing reports, conducting interviews, and attending conferences and official events.
Alsharif was appointed creative content manager at Independent Arabia in June 2022. Her responsibilities included writing and overseeing creative programs. She worked on several documentaries including “Amma Baad” (“Beyond”), “In Brief,” “History of Things,” “Painting’s Tale,” “60 Seconds” and “Terms.”
Her responsibilities included supervision of Independent Arabia’s social media and multimedia team, and other tasks required by the editorial management team.
Alsharif previously held several positions in the Media and Corporate Communications department at Riyadh Municipality including media advisor (March 2021 to June 2022), and director of research and development (October 2019 to March 2021).
In 2021 she worked on the MBC’s cultural program, “Malik Beltaweela,” and wrote 13 episodes.
She has also worked for Makkah Newspaper where she wrote opinion and political articles from 2019 to 2017.
She worked for SAMAT Political Research Center from 2017 to 2019 conducting research.
From 2006 to 2010, she worked with the Disabled Children’s Association as a translator for the medical team.
She has received several honors including the Municipal Excellence Award 2015 for Best Administrative Employee at Riyadh Municipality.
Alsharif holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (2000 to 2005).
She completed a leadership training course with Google Groups organized by the Ministry of Media in 2023.
