ASFAR, Al-Ahsa municipality sign MoU to develop tourist attraction

RIYADH: Saudi Tourism Investment Co. has partnered with Al-Ahsa municipality to develop a 500,000 sq. meter area, envisioning a vibrant destination with diverse tourism, entertainment, and hospitality offerings. 

An affiliate of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the firm, known as ASFAR, has taken this step to foster economic development and enhance the region’s appeal for both local and international visitors. 

Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Asfar and the municipality of Al-Ahsa at the latter’s headquarters in the presence of Al-Ahsa Gov. Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr, Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, the minister of municipal and rural affairs and housing, as well as Al-Ahsa Mayor Essam bin Abdullatif Al-Mulla and Fahad bin Mushayt, CEO of ASFAR, along with senior officials.  

Commenting on the agreement, Mushayt said the partnership underscores ASFAR’s commitment to sustainable development, economic growth, and preserving the cultural heritage of cities across the Kingdom. 

“We are pleased to sign this MoU with the municipality of Al-Ahsa and eager to ignite the tourism potential of this remarkable region with an exciting multi-faceted project that will bring entertainment facilities, F&B, hospitality amenities and more to both the local community and visiting tourists.” the CEO said. 

Al-Ahsa, located in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia, is home to one of nature’s extraordinary wonders, the Al-Ahsa Oasis. Set amid the sands of the Empty Quarter, this lush green sanctuary spans over 20,000 hectares, making it the largest of its kind in the world.
