DUBAI: Johnny Depp is back on the directing chair.

The Hollywood star is preparing for “Modi,” an upcoming biographical drama film based on the life of world-renowned Italian artist and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani.

The movie is directed by Depp, from a screenplay by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski, and follows the life of the artist and the series of events that changed his life forever.

“Modi,” a creative collaboration between Depp and Al Pacino in the works for several years, is backed by the Red Sea Film Foundation, which provided fans with a sneak peek behind the scenes this week.

Al Pacino plays a supporting role as real-life French art collector Maurice Gangnat.

“We are proud to participate in supporting this film as part of our continuous efforts to bring cultures together and promote art in all its forms,” a statement on the festival’s Instagram page read.
